A young man about to get married earns extra cash by driving a local mobster, but things go awry when the mobster is shot dead by a rival crime boss.

Each house, field or riverbank where a crime is committed is a repository for information for the police and historians who review famous killings or notorious robberies. Each episode retells the story of a famous crime. By using archives, contemporary newspaper reports and photographs, the present day investigators are able to relive the crime for the present day viewers.

John Winston Ono Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, musician and peace activist who achieved worldwide fame as the founder, co-songwriter, co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. On the evening of 8 December 1980, Lennon was shot and fatally wounded in the archway of the Dakota, his residence in New York City. His killer was Mark David Chapman, an American Beatles fan who was incensed by Lennon's lavish lifestyle and his 1966 comment that the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus". Chapman said he was inspired by the fictional character Holden Caulfield from J. D. Salinger's novel The Catcher in the Rye, a "phony-killer" who despises hypocrisy.

Scene of the Crime is the title of a mystery anthology series that aired in 1991 and 1992 on CBS, as part of the Crimetime After Primetime late-night block. Rather than employing different actors each episode, the program had a regular cast who played different characters in each story. Series regulars included Stephen McHattie, and producer Stephen J. Cannell appeared onscreen to introduce each story.

Suspense anthology series hosted by Orson Welles who asks the audience to solve the crime presented in the first part of each episode. The second part is a separate horror or thriller story with a twist.
